What are the most important things students should learn in college? -Ben Sleeper

The most important thing that students looking into college is time management and organization. A student who can complete both of these skills will find them in a much better place than they could realize. Time management is important because this allows you to schedule your time in an organized matter, so you get to classes, study blocks, labs, meetings, etc. Time management is a skill I wished I learned at a young age. Organization is also a great skill that every student should be able to do. If you have an organized lifestyle you’ll be able to master time management. An organized lifestyle will set you better than you’d think. All this ties into the Growth Mindset, as Carol Dweck said “ Here are some things we can do. First of all, we can praise wisely, not praising intelligence or talent. That has failed. Don’t do that anymore. But praising the process that kids engage in: their effort, their strategies, their focus, their perseverance, their improvement. This process praise creates kids who are hardy and resilient” (Dweck 4:08) This segment was in response to building the bridge between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset. A fixed mindset is one that the system has created and used over the years in our public school systems. It’s a straightforward mindset of study and get good grades, one with this mindset will horn out the one student or others who did worse just to make themselves feel better about their grades. A growth mindset student completes their task and is able to move onto the next with little flaws.
